Family Snowmobiles

Family TMAs may be issued to families with children up to 18 years of age or up to 22 year's of age if they are enrolled in a school of higher education. To be eligible, all snowmobiles must be registered to the same family member or the same family member's name must appear on each registration as the co-owner & same mailing address. First two TMAs purchased at the "Early Bird" or "Regular Season" rate for Regular or Volunteer categories. The third, fourth, fifth or any subsequent TMAs sold at 1/2 the applicable Regular rate, from "Family TMA Booklet."

Questions and answers about Family TMAs

Q. Does the same family members' name have to appear on all snowmobile registrations?
A. Yes, just because individuals have the same mailing address will not be the only criteria for issuing Family TMAs! The intent of the family TMA is to make it more affordable for families with younger children to enjoy the sport of snowmobiling; it is not to allow young working adults an opportunity to get a lower price.

Q. Do all Family TMAs have to be purchased at the same place?
A. No, as long as the individual has proof of the other purchase(s) they may buy the Family TMAs from different clubs.

Q. What if my name is on two registrations and my wife's name is on the third, will this qualify for a Family TMA?
A. No, VAST recommends that all family owned snowmobiles be registered with at least one common person as the owner or co-owner. This is recommended for legal reasons and it is a requirement for issuing Family TMAs.

Q. Is it easy to add a co-owner's name to a snowmobile registration?
A. Yes, it is! It can be done at the Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles in Montpelier (DMV); in addition, any VAST appointed snowmobile registration agent is able to complete the changes for you.

Five-Day Pass

Any Resident or Non-Resident may purchase a five-day pass. The five-day pass is not subject to the "Early Bird" program. The price of a five-day pass includes liability insurance.

Pathfinders will NOT be selling five-day passes this year. Contact VAST at VTVAST.org to find out where you can purchase a five-day pass.

Regular Snowmobile

For the lack of a better term, is a snowmobile that is less than 15-years old!

TMA Replacement

There is a special box to use on the new TMA application form. Must list the number of the TMA being replaced, and member copy of prior TMA must be presented, and attached to the replacement TMA form. New for this year, there is a $5 fee for issuing a replacement TMA. If the TMA replacement is for someone upgrading their TMA from a Classic TMA to a regular TMA the difference in cost between the Classic TMA and the regular TMA should be added to the $5 transfer fee and that total shown on the transfer line.

Example: Early Bird Classic TMA $35, Regular TMA $90 = $55 difference plus $5 = $60 transfer fee.

Volunteer TMAs

Volunteer TMAs will continue to be furnished to all snowmobile clubs in the same manner that they have been in the past, and as defined in the policy manual--Eight for each club and an additional one for every 10 miles of groomed corridor trail the club maintains.

Other TMA Questions and Answers

Q. What if my snowmobile is stolen or destroyed in a fire or accident, can I get a replacement TMA?
A. Yes, what you will need is a copy of a police report, or insurance report. It will be subject to the $5 replacement fee.

Q. Do all family members of a non-resident property owner qualify for the Non-Resident Landowner TMA.
A. No, only those individuals whose name appear on the tax bill are eligible and a copy of the paid tax bill must be presented in order to get the reduced rate. The snowmobile(s) must also be registered in VT.
